ABOUT
My birthname is Ramon Luis Flores. I used rayflorez.com because some slick guy already had ramonflores.com. Oh well, c'est la vie as the French say. My grandfather actually spelled his name with a z. So, I think it's a fitting homage to the man that I spell it that way professionally. In any case, I didn't get to spend too much time with my paternal grandfather because I grew up in Laredo, Texas and he lived in West Texas. But I'm grateful to him for his sacrifice, he never got past the third grade, and I managed to get a Bachelors from Columbia and a Masters from UTSA. It's humbling to say the least.
I've always been a bit of thinker. In middle school I was named most intellectual. And I've been curious about this world for a long time and the basic questions still puzzle me deeply. My foray into data science is really an extension of this curiosity. I've formally studied Economics and Statistics in college, Data Science in graduate school, but informally I've opened and read books on just about everything Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Biology, Chemistry, History, the lives of great people, and of course Classic Literature. It's sad to admit but the more I've learned the more I realize how little I know. Whoever came up with this wonderful thing we call existence sure knew how to keep it mysterious.
When I'm not thinking deeply, I like to play golf, lift weights, hike at National Parks, fish, travel, watch movies, write fiction and screenplays, and spend time with dear friends and family. Thanks for taking the time to read a little about me, best of luck to you on your journey!
